Will my coverage be reduced for seeing a specialist or emergency animal hospital?

No! We understand that some other pet insurance providers may apply limits or certain rules to veterinary emergencies or conditions requiring specialist care. But with Trupanion, your coverage percentage will never be reduced if your pet is referred to a specialist or emergency animal hospital. After all, accidents happen, and you never know what kind of situation your pet may wind up in. We want your furry friend to get the care they need, wherever they need it.

What veterinary hospitals can my pet go to?

Any one you like! Some pet health insurance providers may limit you to a “veterinary network” of animal hospitals, but we believe your pet deserves the best care regardless of location. With a Trupanion plan, you're free to go to any licensed veterinarian in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico. And yes, this includes specialists and emergency hospitals.

What’s the oldest age that I can enroll my pet with Trupanion?

Unlike a lot of other pet insurance companies with earlier cutoff dates, we welcome new dogs and cats up to age 14 here at Trupanion. However, we do recommend signing up your pet as early as possible so they can get the most out of their coverage throughout their lifetime. Wondering why we chose age 14? After closely examining years of veterinary data, we chose age 14 because it’s on the higher side of a pet’s average lifetime expectancy (for both dogs and cats). We also wanted to give pet parents like you ample time to sign up beloved pets for years of valuable coverage.

Is hip dysplasia covered by Trupanion?

Yes. Although some pet insurance providers do not cover hip dysplasia, this coverage is built into Trupanion's core coverage. Both large and small dogs may develop this genetic disorder, and our medical insurance will cover it as long as it is not pre-existing.

Can I cancel my Trupanion policy at any time?

Of course! We want you to feel confident in your decision to protect your pet with Trupanion, and we understand that life circumstances can change. This is why we make it easy to cancel your Trupanion policy at any time (for any reason).
