What is kitten insurance?
With all of the responsibilities that come with bringing a kitten into your family, the last thing you should have to worry about is unexpected veterinary costs. You can’t predict when your kitten will experience a surprise illness or injury, but what you can do is help protect both your pet and your budget with cat insurance. And by enrolling your pet when they’re still a kitten, you can set both of you up for a lifetime of less worry.
With coverage from Trupanion, you get to enjoy unlimited payouts and never have to stress about us suddenly cutting off care or raising rates just because your cat develops a chronic condition or otherwise needs frequent care. We cover eligible costs for all new injuries and illnesses, including surgeries, hospital stays, emergency care, and other unexpected vet costs faced by pet parents every day.
And for when you need to ask questions, or navigate an emergency, we’re available 24/7, 365 days a year. After all, we all know that our pet can’t wait to get sick or hurt only during business hours.

When's the best time to get kitten insurance?
The best time to get insurance is while your cat is still a kitten. Signing up when they’re still young enables you to get the best value out of your cover:
- More conditions covered — The younger the cat, the less likely they are to have pre-existing conditions. This means your pet will have more conditions that can be covered throughout their lifetime.
- Lowest cost — With Trupanion, we base your monthly cost for life on your pet’s age when they enrolled. So, if you sign up when your pet is a kitten, they’ll be priced as a kitten throughout their nine lives.
TIP: No cat insurance provider covers pre-existing conditions. Insuring your cat when they’re young or when you first bring them home helps you get the most out of your cover because they’re less likely to develop pre-existing conditions.
How much does kitten insurance cost?
With our optional flexible excess, you can pick an excess that works for your budget. If you want an excess, you can pick any amount up to $1000 - or you can choose to skip having an excess at all. Plus, you can increase your excess at any time by giving us a call.
You know better that anyone that your cat is one of a kind. That’s why you can choose an excess that right for you and your cat.
Do I need kitten insurance?
While we’re obviously a little biased... we truly believe that pet insurance is something every cat parent should have. To put it simply, we’re pet owners just like you, and we more than understand how stressful it is when your furry family member is sick or hurt. Kitten insurance can help remove the stress of wondering if or how you’re going to pay for their care, and it helps sets up your pet for a lifetime of great veterinary treatment.
Think of Trupanion as helping you prepare for those large (and small), unexpected vet bills. Choosing pet insurance is a personal process and individual to the needs of you and your pet. We recommend reading the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) to see if Trupanion kitten insurance is the right fit for you and your pet.
